Mr. Debi Prasad Patra

Mr. Debi Prasad Patra, after obtaining a Post Graduate degree in Political Science from Delhi University, began his career in the Government, when he joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1979 and was assigned to the West Bengal Cadre.
In his distinguished career spanning 24 years in Government, he held many important posts. Among them were his stints as Under Secretary, Home Department, District Magistrate of Darjeeling and South 24 Parganas, Director of Industries, Managing Director, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation and Secretary, Information Technology.
The highlights of his Government tenure were successful handling of the G.N.L.F agitation in Darjeeling leading to the historic Tripartite Accord in August 1988, taking bold initiatives in infrastructural projects in areas South of Kolkata (1989 – 1994), making substantial contribution to the industrial resurgence of West Bengal (1994 – 2001) and laying the platform for growth of IT industries that gained recognition for West Bengal as a destination for IT investment (2001 –2003).
In July 2003 he took voluntary retirement to join MCPI, as Joint Managing Director. In 2009 he took charge as Managing Director of India Power Corporation Limited ( IPCL ). He continues to be a member of the IPCL Board.
In July 2010 he returned to MCPI as its Executive Chairman and since November 2016, he has been functioning as its only Whole-time Director, managing day to day affairs of the company.
