MCPI expands customer connect and proximity with downstream Polyester offerings through the strategic acquisition of Garden Silk Mills Private Limited (GSMPL)

In line with the textile vision of Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Chairman, the group marked its presence in the downstream market of polyester through its acquisition of Garden Silk Mills Private Limited (GSMPL) in February 2021. Garden Silk Mills, began its journey in Surat, Gujarat in 1979. It was renowned for its iconic brand, Garden Vareli,that quickly ascended to prominence as a leading player in fabric and fashion. Despite experiencing a business slowdown in recent years, the brand retains significant recall value. TCG is actively striving to restore the brand’s primacy in the saree and fashion segments thus, moving a step closer to the consumer industry.

GSMPL, with its establishments in Jolwa and Vareli, is a producer of polyester chips,yarn (POY, FDY, and others), griege and finished fabric. As the primary requisite raw material for these products is PTA, MCPI was the unchallenged acquirer of this facility thus ensuring forward integration in the PTA chain and creating TCG’s aura in the polyester business. MCPI has been maintaining steady supplies of good quality PTA at competitive prices to support GSMPL’s Yarn business. Having successfully commissioned the Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY) plant (an expansion project of Rs. 1200 crore) with a capacity of 272 Tons per day, with State-of-the-Art Oerlikon Barmag machines that promises to produce ‘best in class’ FDY for knitting, weaving and sizing applications, TCG through MCPI signals the onset of an era characterized by swift advancements in the Textile Sector.
